Not in Portland: Some Thoughts

The more I think about this ep the more I like it. I voted 8 for it on the Fuselage...a good strong 8.

I really felt a connection to the characters in a way I haven't felt so far this season. It seemed to give more depth to the Others, and to Jack. For the first time I actually respected him. For me that's allot as he usually makes me kind of nauseous. Jack and Juliet are so very similar and understanding her through her back story brought more of an understanding of Jacks character. Both are reluctant heroes, both basket cases who react out of fear, both are too smart to be wise, both held captive by their responsibilities, both living under the thumb of an emotionally abusive dominant male. I think Juliet is my new favorite character. Watching her back story was like getting involved in a whole nother show. She's a woman on the edge, no wonder she's so trigger happy.

Lets not to forget all the island mystery and the industry intrigue I love about this show. Wow! It had everything. Widmore, Dharma, Mittelos (perhaps a connection to the Hanso Foundation and Thomas Mittlework there.) I wonder if the medical labs Juliet was working for were connected to the Widmore Corp. The pregnancy tests her sister uses are well known products of theirs. The writers seemed to intentionally keep the medical lab generic.

And that Clockwork Orange Room... Wow! I have to figure out how to get screen shots so I can analize those. There's definately something about the "everything changes" section that intrigues me... like the one with the protractor...the same kind that Danielle uses with her maps of the island. Are we being told that the island changes, perhaps totgraphically? hmmm
